Tumor Removal

Well...its done. I went in for surgery May 5th to have a tumor on my T-spine removed. It turned out to be more of an extensive surgery that we originally thought. I was in the ICU for 2 days and the hospital for a total of 6 days. The tumor ended up being right on my spinal column and closer to my lungs and heart that the doctors originally thought. Because it was so close to both they needed to collapse my right lung and make an incision on my right side about 12 in long. I had a chest tube for several days to drain the fluids in my chest, an arterial line, an IV and I had an epidural which numbed most of my back helping with the pain and also had a catheter because my movement was limited. I was on oxygen up until the day before I went home and a heart monitor. The whole ordeal was quite and experience and will continue to be until I am recovered. I cannot express my gratitude for the thoughts and prayers and blessings that got me through this experience. I was able to endure the fear and anxiety of such a major surgery because I knew i was not alone. I am grateful to be done and hope that the recovery process will be smooth sailing.
Scott was so nice to stay with me everyday while I was in the hospital. I was admitted Tuesday night to to all the pre-op tests so we were ready to go the next morning. He was able to stay the night with me to give me comfort. He couldn't stay while I was in the ICU because they don't let anyone because there is no where to sleep so I missed him so much and was glad to have him back when we got back up to the 4th floor. This was a hard time for him because it was still finals time and he was trying to study in between all the craziness. His professor was nice to let him take the test a day late and we were to glad. I know I have the best husband who loves me and takes such good care of me! He has been so wonderful as usual and I know he would do anything for me. My Mom was so awesome to fill in when he needed to study and go take his test. She was there so so much helping all she could. She kept Scott fed and taken care care of as well as taking care of me. I couldn't have done this without them. I was surrounded by people who love and care about me.
I was so happy to have all my Dad, my sisters and Scott's parents and family come visit often. My sister from Idaho even drove all the way here to see me. My brother and sister-in-law in Florida called from far away with there best wishes. Family is the best! They all came several times and were constantly keeping in touch with me and my Mom to get updates. My dear friends and co-workers were all so concerned and came as well. It was fun to keep in touch with the outside world. Thank you to everyone.
Here are some photos of our experience. Some are a little graphic...so ye be warned.

Scott wanted to be the patient =)

In the ICU they had me sit in the chair for a while to get me moving before taking my first walk.

Chest tube. Creepy!
